Dr. Bonnie Renfro

Bonnie Renfro, MD
Dr. Renfro received her medical degree at University of Michigan and completed her residency in general surgery and otolaryngology.

She is Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine as well as Head and Neck Surgery.

Most recently Dr. Renfro was the Medical Director and staff physician for Palliative Medicine at Presbyterian Health Systems in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and also spent 10 years at the Albuquerque VA Medical Center.

She has taught, lectured and published articles on a variety of subjects including dysphagia, debility, palliative medicine and dementia.

As the Chief Medical Officer for Hospice of the Comforter, Dr. Renfro oversees a team of hospice physicians as she directs the care of our patients in compliance with Medicare regulations and guidelines.

Dr. Suzanne Karefa-Johnson

Suzanne Karefa-Johnson, MD
Dr. Kareafa-Johnson began her higher education at Harvard University and continued to George Washington University Medical School for her Doctor of Medicine degree, where she received the Henry J. Kaiser National Merit Fellowship. Her postgraduate training was at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center and University of Maryland Medical Systems. She is credentialed by the Hospice Medical Director Certification Board.

She has over 12 years of clinical, administrative and regulatory expertise in the field of hospice medicine. She finds hospice medicine and the philosophy of the interdisciplinary palliation of total pain of patients and their families facing life-limiting illness, to be an environment in which her natural passion flourishes. Her focus throughout her medical career has been relationship-centered care built on a foundation of communication and collaboration between, patient, family, clinician and the healthcare delivery system. Her career path has included managed care, academic medicine, international public health and palliative care consulting in sub-Saharan Africa.

Dr. David McGrew

David McGrew, M.D.
Dr. McGrew received his undergraduate (BA in Natural Sciences) and Medical degrees at the University of South Florida.

He began General Medical, Private Practice in 1983 and gained Board Certification from the American Academy of Pain Management. He has been the Medical Director for Hernando Pasco Hospice since 1985 and in 1995, decided to become a full time hospice physician and was board certified by the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine in 1988. Dr. McGrew is a founding member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) (formerly the Academy of Hospice Physicians), and is the Past President of the Florida chapter.
Dr. McGrew holds memberships in the American Academy of Pain Management and the AMA. He served as the Central Region Chairman for the Florida Cancer Pain Initiative and the Chairman of the Florida Hospices, Inc. -- Physician Leadership Peer Group in 1998. In 2000 he became President of the newly formed Hospice and Palliative Physician Services, LLC (HPPS), a physician group providing home care to hospice and palliative medicine patients.
